The Outreach Program

Food Packing Event

In Connecticut -- 1 in 9 people are going hungry, for children it is 1 in 6. Together we can make a difference.

Covenant Presbyterian Church will be hosting our second meal packaging event on February 22, 2020. An event where people of all ages and abilities can come together to make a difference in our community -- We need more than 100 volunteers to pull this event off and would love your support! We are looking for help setting up, packaging meals and cleaning as well as help signing people in and refreshments for our volunteers. For anyone that signs up to stay and clean -- pizza will be provided by The Winged Bear!

Volunteer Here

Thank you all for all of your support in this amazing mission to feed Connecticut!

All donations will be used by The Outreach Program to purchase the dried ingredients that we will then assemble into individual meals. We would love to surpass our goal and extend our reach to as many local food pantries as possible.

For as little as $30 you can feed 100 people.

Covenant to Care for Children

The Barn has officially adopted a social worker!

Covenant to Care is an organization that provides essential goods to children in need throughout Connecticut. Partnering with them, we will do the same, right here in Simsbury. Believe it or not, there are children in this town who go to school without supplies, without proper hygiene, without a winter coat or without a good night's sleep because they are "homeless". These are things that most of us take for granted. Lacking basic needs impacts their learning. It's a distraction at the very least that competes for their attention when education should be their focus.

I hope you will join us!

If you are interested in serving by providing or sourcing the needs that are brought to our attention, please provide:

  • Individually wrapped snacks (nut free please) such as Goldfish, Nature Valley oats and honey granola bars, Welch’s fruit snacks, to-go apple sauce tubes, etc.

Please drop these in the closet attached to Room 4.

Simsbury Food Pantry

Food scarcity doesn’t just exist in the known places of poverty. Your neighbors and friends can find themselves in circumstances where resources are not enough to meet the need for daily nutrition. The Simsbury Food Pantry seeks to help to close the gap for our neighbors. We support the pantry with a once a month collection of canned goods, and items. Volunteers deliver the collected food once a month. Donations can be brought to Celebration Hall and left in the collection bin.

Items of regular need are:

  • Toilet Paper (individually wrapped or 4 packs)
  • Coffee (regular/decaf - instant/ground)
  • Canned Meats
  • Canned/Bottled Juices
  • Spaghetti Sauce
  • Canned Fruit (low sugar and reg)
  • Crackers
  • Tea (regular/decaf)
  • Maple Syrup
  • Pancake Mix
  • Cereals/Oatmeal
  • Canned Vegetables (no salt and reg)

Church Army

The Church Army has a mission of faithfully showing up for the brittle in society in ways that are practical and spiritual. You may join them on the streets of Hartford serving and loving the homeless on Saturdays, or in one of the three area nursing homes they reach each month. They show up with many practical items, including the hope we have in a God who unstoppably loves us right where we are, but the greatest gift you bring is your time and friendship. Join them for one of their many opportunities, whether it is relational or behind the scenes. Come love and be loved.
